In Bloom: Dwarf Iris

Edith J. Carrier Arboretum: Dwarf Iris

Edith J. Carrier Arboretum: Dwarf Iris

Dwarf Irises are beautiful in purple and gold!

Genus: Iris

Dwarf Irises bloom in late winter or early spring.  They look like a smaller (typically 4 – 6 inches) version of the larger, later-blooming Dutch Iris. Many of the arboretum’s Dwarf Irises were somewhat flattened by torrential rains over the past 24 hours.

Fun Fact: Dwarf Irises have a lovely fragrance – similar to a violet.
